Brief Overview
Vitamin B5 or pantothenic acid is the only biologically active form and naturally occurring. Pantothenic acid comprises coenzyme A which plays role in energy metabolism. Coenzyme A also partakes in the synthesis of essential fatty acids, carbohydrates, cholesterol, porphyrins, and the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. Pantothenic acid in the form of D-Calcium Pantothenate Ca[C9H16NO5]2 is an enhancement of vitamin supplementation for almost all animal species’ diets.
Manufacturing Process
A process for producing calcium D-pantothenate, which comprises bringing a solution containing D-pantothenic acid directly produced by microbial fermentation into contact with activated carbon to adsorb the D-pantothenic acid to the activated carbon, eluting the D-pantothenic acid with a hydrophilic organic solvent, neutralizing the eluate with an alkali agent containing calcium to precipitate calcium D-pantothenate, and collecting the calcium D-pantothenate.
